About Me

Hi, I’m Rupert — a Nottingham-based guitarist, violinist, and music tutor. I’ve been playing violin for 29 years, guitar for 20, and I’ve been performing and teaching full-time ever since graduating from the University of Leeds with a BA (Hons) in Music.

My true musical loves are blues, funk, jazz, and soul — but I also enjoy playing pop and rock, especially with my bands, The Groovy Cats and Inner Groove Collective. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to perform internationally, work with original artists, tribute bands, theatre productions, and function bands, as well as record on albums.

When it comes to teaching, I believe in tailoring lessons to the individual. Whether you’re looking to jam with friends, accompany your singing, improvise with confidence, or pass graded exams (with distinction — over 70% of my students have!), I’m here to help you get there. I’ve worked with students of all ages and musical tastes — from metal to K-pop and everything in between — and I love helping people make music in a way that’s personal and meaningful to them.

Lessons are relaxed, flexible, and built around your goals. You can come to my home for lessons, or I can travel to you for a small additional fee.

Lessons are available online or at my home studio in Nottingham.
